Practicing Tips

Dear 4th grade parent,

Thank you for encouraging your child to become musically literate by practicing a bit everyday. Thank you for parenting them in this. A practice sheet is due once a month. They should practice about 7 or more minutes a day and be working on pages 8-12+. Replacement practice sheets are available on the previous website page.

To make their musical skill development (practicing) more fun, please practice with them. Encourage the steady beat.

  *  Encourage a good tone (not airy or shrill).
  *  Encourage smooth rhythmic musical phrase.
  *  Encourage them to strive for excellence and accomplish something significant.
  *  Encourage them not to give up when it is difficult.
  *  Praise them when it sounds good.
  *  Encourage them to practice slowly at first to get the right notes and rhythms, then

            increase speed.
  *  God made us to shine for Him, to reflect Him and to do great things for each other

            and for Him.

If you can't spend 7 minutes a day practicing with them, please remind them to use the CD or DVD or the music software. A parent with personal contact is so much better and more valuable to a child than the substitute (a machine - TV, CD, computer). But if you need help with the software give me a call at home. 602 866-3310.

For your child's musical literacy and lifelong musical enjoyment,

Mark Lyons
