Timeline: 1.1797 he was born a slave in Ulster County NY. 2.1815 she married a man named Thomas, another slave and has 5 children Diana, Peter, Elizabeth, Sofia, and the other child died. 3.1826 runs away from her owner Mr. John Dumont. 4.1827 is legally set free. 5.1883 she dies. |

Character Quality Traits/ Anecdotes: 1. Strong-she lived through slavery for 20 years. 2. Brave-she took the case of her son being sold to another state to court and won. 3. Loving- she helped free other slaves because she knew what they were going through and that it was wrong. 4. Kind- she talked to people about God and showed them his love. 5. Persistence- she would fight fight for woman's rights and slave's rights. |
Accomplishments 1. In the year 1883 she changed her name from Isabella to Sojourner because she would travel all of the states to talk and sing, she changed her Truth because she believed God told her to speak the truth. 2. Sojourner stopped a lot of people from keeping slaves by speaking to them and explaining to them how bad it really was. 3. One time Sojourner was about to speak at a meeting, but an angry mob came to her and the others for what they were speaking about. She hid, but soon gained courage to go and speak anyway as she approached she sang. After she sang the men approached her she was afraid but the men said "We did not come to hurt you but to hear you sing." 4. another time she and her friends were waiting for a streetcar. A man stopped and let them in then he realized Sojourner was black; he grabbed her and shoved her against the door. Later Sojourner took the man to court and won. 5. On October 29, 1864 she met Abraham Lincoln, and he signed her book |
