Timeline: 1.1948-Born in Joliet, Illinois on August 23rd. 2.1966-For his senior retreat, his class toured Notre Dame. 3.1968-Enlisted into the Navy as a yeoman 4.1970-Went back to Commonwealth Edison Power Plant. 5.1971- Best friend Siskel dies, which encourages him to go to Notre Dame. 6.1973-Gets into Holy Cross Junior College. 7.1975-Finally gets into Notre Dame. He stayed on the football teams practice squad for two years, but never played. 8.1977-Senior year in college he gets to play in the last game of the last season for twenty-seven seconds-three plays. |

Character Quality Traits/Anecdotes: 1. Brave-Kept on working at the power plant, even with the people who discouraged. 2. Persistent-Kept on applying to get into Notre Dame even when his counselor told him he didn't have the grades. 3.Courage-Enlisted into the Navy when he knew no one he would be with. 4. Determined-He stayed on the Notre Dame football practice squad for two years and did not miss one practice and also did not play one game. 5. Loving-Now travels all over the country telling to share his story with kids and inspire them to follow their dreams. |
Accomplishments: 1.When he was in the Navy as a yeoman, he was chosen to decommission the ship he was on. And when he did he was the last person off the ship. 2. In 1973 he was in the Navy as a yeoman, he was chosen to decommission the he was on. And when he did he was the last man off. 3. At Holy Cross his counselor took a test on his mind to see what was wrong with him. It appeared that he had dyslexia, a learning disability. When he took his admissions test again to get into Notre Dame he passed. 4. In 1975 he made the Notre Dame practice squad. 5. In 1977 he got to play 27 seconds in the last game of his senior year in college. He played in three plays, kick off, defense, and then on the last play he "sacked" the quarterback. |
