My name is Lynn Gudhus and I am so excited to be back for my second year at Scottsdale Christian Academy! I was raised in Arizona in a Christian home and remember praying to ask Jesus to be my personal Lord and Savior in first grade. I attended the University of Arizona and majored in English. After graduating, I moved to rural Japan for one year and taught English to elementary and middle school students. It was an amazing experience for me!
After my time in Japan, I moved back to Arizona and worked for five years as the educational marketing director for Great Potential Press, a small publishing company specializing in products for parents and teachers. I worked with schools and educators from all over and enjoyed the creativity this position had to offer.
I then moved to New York City to continue in publishing with Workman Publishing focusing on the educational product, Brain Quest. I was able to collaborate with amazing, award-winning teachers from across the country. The more I worked with them, the more I realized that God wanted me in the classroom as a teacher! So I attended Columbia University, Teachers College, in New York and received my Masters Degree in Elementary Education. While studying for this degree, I worked in New York City public schools for two years as an assistant teacher in first grade, as a student teacher in second and fourth grades, and as a full-time teacher for the last six weeks of school in second grade. All of these positions were incredible learning opportunities for me.
I love teaching first grade. I believe in working with my students to help them become inquisitive learners, exploring and asking questions. I also believe in being attentive to my students’ spiritual needs. I want to nurture faith, hope, and love in my students. I want them to know that God created them with a purpose and has a plan for them. I look forward to the school year!
