“The steadfast love of the Lord never ceases, His mercies never come to an end; they are new every morning, great is Your faithfulness.” Lamentations 3:22-23
Kindergarten Curriculum

At Scottsdale Christian Academy we offer both half day and all day kindergarten sessions. Students must be five years old by September 1 of the current school year. Half-day morning kindergarten meets from 8:30-11:30 AM.  All day kindergarten meets from 8:10 a.m.-2:40 p.m.  Classes are held at our Early Childhood Education Center at 13840 North Tatum Blvd.

The curriculum for half day and all day sessions is basically the same. All classes have Chapel, Library, and Computers. The all day classes will also have time for weekly Music and P.E. classes along with additional curriculum extensions. Curriculum extensions for half-day students are provided at home. After school day care is available from 3:00-5:30 PM at an hourly rate.

SCA's reading, writing, and phonics curriculum is published by A Beka Book, Inc. Some children will learn to read in kindergarten. All children will learn that reading is exciting and related to what they and others think, speak and write.

Math Their Way and Saxon Math teach math concepts using a great variety of manipulatives and "real things". Students frequently count, write, graph, pattern, compare, estimate, add and subtract using materials such as unifix cubes, pattern blocks, colored beans, interesting objects, toothpicks, or tiles.

Our Scott Foresman science program is based on exploration and discovery. Much of kindergarten science involves learning about living things. Children observe plant and animal growth. They also learn about habitats, seasons, textures, sounds, tastes, color mixing, magnets, weather and insects.

Computers are used in kindergarten to reinforce our curriculum and provide both guided and independent practice in language, reading, math and science.

Cooking experience is also part of kindergarten. It is a learning activity that includes identifying tools, learning simple hygiene and safety, measuring ingredients, describing tastes and changes in the properties of matter, and reading a recipe.

Social Studies for kindergarten includes study and appreciation of our Pilgrim heritage, the symbolism of our flag, and significant historical leaders of our country in conjunction with the “Let’s Find Out” and “Time for Kids” newspapers.

Art and music are vital parts of the kindergarten curriculum. In the classroom, students sing and enjoy music each day. Art includes easel and table painting, craft projects, working with clay, print art and finger painting. These activities are creative outlets for students and also develop small muscle control, listening skills and good work habits.

The Bible curriculum used daily in kindergarten focuses on familiar children's stories of the Bible from the Old and New Testaments. These stories provide a foundation for living with an emphasis on God's care for us. They address life issues such as being obedient, being honest, sharing with others, getting along with others, taking turns, being unselfish, and telling the truth. Students are encouraged to have a heart for world missions by learning about people and their customs throughout the world. Students attend chapel, learn memory verses, sing praises and spend time in prayer. Our goal is to show our students that the truths of the Bible are real and practical to help them learn of Jesus Christ and His love for us.

Field trips and other special activities occur throughout the year. Many of the field trips that are taken help the children learn more about our community.

"Play is a child's work." It is true that through "play" young children learn much. They have recess times each day. Children are usually given "choosing time" during the day when they may freely choose among the learning centers and activities in the classroom.
