Reading
and Language Arts |
| The A Beka curriculum is
the core of our reading and language arts program. It provides
a strong phonetic foundation for reading. The components of the
program include: grammar, creative writing, reading comprehension,
spelling, poetry, and cursive writing. The teaching materials for
these subjects abound with specific examples aimed at Christian
character building. |
| |
Math |
| Saxon Math is our math program. Saxon’s
primary mathematics series is a “hands-on”, success-oriented
program that emphasizes manipulative and mental math. The series
addresses the multi-sensory approach to teaching and is designed
for heterogeneously grouped children. Its use will enable all children
to develop a solid foundation in the language and basic concepts
of mathematics.
Math concepts taught include carrying, borrowing (re-grouping),
patterning, place value, geometry, fractions, multiplication,
division, calendars, time, measurement and money. Frequent
assessments and timed tests provide feedback on your child’s
progress.

Bible |
| The Bible curriculum we use is published
by ACSI entitled God and My Actions. Second grade students
study Old Testament heroes beginning with Moses. We also study
the lives of Joshua, Ruth, David, Job, Elijah, Esther, Nehemiah,
Miriam, Abraham, Martha, Peter, Paul and Daniel. During the Christmas
and Easter season, the birth, death and resurrection of Christ
are covered. Students learn weekly memory verses and character
traits that go along with those verses. |
| |
Science |
| Several science units are taught throughout
the year including interactions of living things, light and color,
earth through time and solids, liquids and gases. Science Discovery
Works, published by Concordia, is the textbook used along with
supplemental hands-on experiences. We believe that Science is best
taught from a context that integrates our faith in Jesus Christ
and the forgiveness and new life that are ours in Him. |

Social
Studies |
The
Scott Foresman curriculum builds citizenship and geography skills.
Units include: Where We Live, Our Earth, Working Together, Our Country
Today, Our Country Long Ago, and People and Places in History.

expand and be challenged through various learning centers in the
classroom. These include such things as math games, science experiments,
research skills, computer activities, listening skills and reading
