Ms. Jan Rauscher’s Biography

I love teaching 5th grade students at SCA!  My adrenaline flows when I lead and watch young people grow in their thinking and understanding.  In fact, once your child has stepped into Room 403, he or she will have crossed over the thinking threshold.   Rest assured that this is not correlated with stepping into the Twilight Zone.  However, children in my room will be exposed to a teacher who is intensely enthusiastic about learning and thinking!  Having a passion for reading makes me just love the English language.  Okay, I admit I enjoy words so much that I will try to convince your children that the dictionary is their friend.  Thanks to Cole, my big fat dictionary has now acquired the name of "Steve"! This past year, one of the goals of Room 403 was to be the healthiest class on campus. The results of this goal were our weekly food challenges, jump roping, and hula-hoop activities!

Who am I?

Ms. RauscherI grew up in Jefferson City, Missouri where my favorite part of each school day was running up and down grassy hills during recess.  Gradually, I transferred my energies to hiking, swimming, practicing the piano, and reading.  I received my B.S. in Elementary Education at the University of Missouri.  Yet, despite having had a strong science background, which included two years of medical dietetics and nutrition, I still believe in the absolute necessity of eating Oreo cookies.  I have been blessed with four wonderful children of my own.  Teaching VBS, helping in AWANA Cubbie and Spark’s programs, and serving in children’s church ministry have allowed me many avenues to teach children.    For the past eight years, I have been teaching at Christian schools in third grade, fourth grade, fifth grade, and sixth grade.

Why am I a teacher?

I have a passionate love for children.  God has put a distinctive call on my life to minister to children.  In Ephesians 1, Paul talks about his calling as an apostle of Christ Jesus by the will of God.  The first evidence of God’s call on my life came when I made the decision to follow Christ as my personal Savior when I was five years old.  Throughout my life I have seen God’s hand and His leading me to teach children and convey His incredible saving love.  For me the opportunity to be a part of the SCA team is part of God fulfilling His purpose in my life.  I look forward to spending time with your children and prayerfully guiding them towards listening and learning how God wants to fulfill His purpose for each of them.
