Tim Hillen – Biographical Information
Timothy J. Hillen has invested his entire professional life in teaching and school administrative capacities. Tim’s career began as a teacher in suburban Detroit in 1971. His ten-year teaching experience was in the area of secondary social studies, including American history, government, psychology, and sociology. In addition to teaching, he was involved in sponsoring and coaching numerous athletic activities, including tennis, track, basketball, and cross-country. After a decade of high school teaching, Tim began his career as an educational administrator. He assumed the position of Assistant Principal at Greenfield High School in Wisconsin from 1981-1983.
In 1983, Tim accepted an invitation from Macomb Christian School, a newly-formed Christian school in Detroit’s northern suburbs, to become its first Administrator. This position marked the beginning of a 25-year career heading four of America’s finest Christian schools. In addition to Macomb Christian School, Tim was the Administrator of Heritage Christian School in Indianapolis andthe President of Briarcrest Christian School in Memphis. Currently, Tim is the Headmaster of Whitefield Academy in suburban Atlanta.
In Tim’s Christian administrative career, he has been highly regarded as a Christian school visionary who puts ideas into action. Consequently, Tim’s schools have been characterized by significant growth (student enrollment and facilities), superb organization, and excellence in Christian school education. He has initiated millions of dollars of school improvements and campus developments. Tim serves as a frequent contributor to Christian school periodicals and as a participating speaker at various Christian school functions.
Tim and his wife, Marty, have been married for 35 years. Marty, a teacher for most of their married life, now assists Whitefield Academy in the areas of admissions and standardized testing. Marty is a graduate of Taylor University and Ball State University. The Hillens have two children, Cheryl (30) and Mark (28). Cheryl, a graduate of Liberty University and Johns Hopkins University, is a former high school English teacher and school counselor. Cheryl’s husband, Nicholas, is also a former teacher who is currently enrolled in the doctoral program (theology) at Wheaton College. Mark, a graduate of the United States Military Academy at West Point, is concluding his active duty responsibilities as a Captain in the United States Army.
Tim received a B.S. Degree in Social Sciences from Taylor University, a M.A. in Educational Administration from Eastern Michigan University, and an Ed. Specialist Degree in Educational Leadership from the University of Wisconsin – Milwaukee.
